About Istria

There are several ways to get to Casa Funtana. The most common route is to fly to Trieste Airport with RyanAir and then drive. There are several carhire firms located at the airport. From the airport it is about a 2 hour drive to the house. Driving Instructions are located here. There are buses from the airport to the centre of Trieste running every half hour and costing about 2. The journey takes an hour. It is then about another 2 hours by bus to Porec.

Another alternative is to fly with Easyjet to Ljubljana and to drive from there. Again it takes about 2 hours to drive from Ljubljana.

For those travelling from outside London or wishing to fly directly to Croatia here are some other alternatives including:

Croatia Airlines to Rijeka

Thomson from Gatwick to Venice - about 3 hours by road-  or Pula, about 40 minutes' drive

Thomson Fly from Coventry to Venice

Jet2Com from Leeds or Manchester to Venice

Easyjet from East Midlands, Bristol or Gatwick to Venice.

For those travelling via Germany:

German Wings from Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart to Zagreb

Hapag-Lloyd Express from Cologne/Bonn to Rijeka

The Visit Croatia website has useful information on how to get to Croatia from Italy.

For those with a romantic streak in them a further alternative is to take the catamaran from Trieste to Porec.

Driving from the UK is a possibility - you should allow 2 days each way though. The best route takes you through Germany where the motorways are free, through Austria and Slovenia down to Istria.
